Found a Cat?

First, please be very careful approaching any unknown cat, all cats may present as "feral" when scared.

Once the cat is secure, take it to any vet office or shelter for a microchip check. If a microchip is present, call the number in to one of the national microchip databases.

Share a clear photo with details, including location found, gender, etc to all local lost and found pet pages. Also share this information with any local shelter and rescues.  Request that they do a courtesy post.

If the cat does not have an owner, call all of the local rescues and shelters in the area to see if they are doing intakes.  Please be patient, shelters have population restrictions and it may take time for space to open up.

Do NOT abandon the cat in front of any rescue or shelter, it is a felony in Michigan to do so, and you put the shelter/rescue that is already overwhelmed in a very precarious position.

Stray cats are a community problem, and we need to work together to solve it.

If the cat is feral or unowned, please make a plan to at least get it fixed, there are low cost options in most communities.

If you are able to temporarily house the stray cat please keep it separated from any other cats in the home until it is flea treated and tested for illnesses like FIV/FELV
